All about lessons

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A LESSON? - During an Alexander Technique lesson, the only movements you will be asked to do are everyday ones; standing, sitting or walking for instance. The teacher will gently use her hands to suggest ways of moving that create maximum poise and lightness with minimum strain. Part of the lesson may include lying down to provide maximum support and relief for the back. There are no 'Alexander Exercises'. Instead, pupil and teacher look together at how the whole body is being used, and find the most helpful approach to better co-ordinationHOW WILL MY LESSONS BE ORGANISED? - Lessons are usually given on a one-to-one basisalthough an introductory group can provide a good way to begin exploring Alexander's ideas. - It is important to come at least once a week to begin with, and you may find your teacher suggesting more frequent lessons for the first few weeks. - Lessons usually last 30 - 45 minutes. You may find it helpful to wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move around freely.HOW MANY LESSONS WILL I NEED? - This is the impossible question! Everyone who comes for Alexander lessons will have different needs, and find changes happening at very different rates. It is usually better to wait until you have seen a teacher once or twice before discussing how many lessons you might need in total.
