WHAT IS THE ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE?Will the Alexander Technique help my bad back?.....improve my posture?...relieve my stress? The Alexander Technique is concerned with all this and more. An Alexander lesson will look at how you move, and how you respond to the world around you. Work, travel, hobbies, the people we meet, even the way we sleep at night may bring about feelings of tension and discomfort. It is all too easy to interfere with our natural co-ordination; hunching over a desk, holding the phone too tightly, or slumping into the sofa at the end of the day. We quickly forget how to move freely, and how to be comfortable when still.During an Alexander lesson, you will gradually become aware of your own particular pattern of tension; when and how you interfere with your natural balance and poise. Only then can you begin to learn how to use your body more effectively. The Alexander Technique is not a 'quick-fix' - it takes time to change your approach to everyday activities - but a course of lessons will open up new possibilities of self discovery.
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM ALEXANDER LESSONS?Most people find their way to an Alexander lesson because something hurts! This doesn't have to be the case however, many people come because they rely on good co-ordination in their work, or would like to improve their performance at a particular skill. Prevention is always better than cure, and if you feel that you move awkwardly, have bad posture, or nagging aches and pains a course of lessons will help prevent more serious trouble developing.
